A MONSTER EXECUTED.
■CONFESSING TO 27 MUKDERS. New Yobk, M*y 9. Holmes has been executed in Philadelphia. He confessed to having committed 27 murders. H. H. Holmes was tried in Philadelphia for ttie murder of James Pitzell and .his family. Holmes tuolc thcee of the .children to Canada and made away with them, and the diaoovt-ry of their remains, buried in a cellar at Toronto, led to investigations which eatabliKhed" Holmes as the greatest murderer in modem history. His victims uumber, probably, 60, although he has confessed to only 27, aud he killed them nearly all to realise on insurance policies; or to 9t>ll their skeletons to medical students. In many cases the pure lore of killiug seems to have been the only motive. In Chicago he hud au establishment fitted up specially for the destruction of the flesh and the bleaching of the skeletons. The revelations in his cafe during the tcial were of a sickening nature.
