RAILWAY RETURNS.

The railway working account, showing the revenue and expenditure on the various lines for the financial yea I*,1 *, gives the following results :—

A comparative statement shows that as compared with the previous financial year there was a decrease of 3256 first class and 25,538 second class siDgle tickets, but increases ot 15,112 first class and 270,530 second class return tickets ; while the increase in season tickets was 7610. Parcels incrrased by 10,530, cattle by 236, sheep by 319,791, pigs by 10,054. There were decreases of 70 horses, 34 carriage?, 966 dogs, 12 drays, and 1475 oalves Id the carriage of goods there was an increase of 16,288 tons lime, 14,554 ton« timber, 11,942 tons merchandise, and 20,741 tons minerals.
