THE DUX.

EVERYWHERE. SIX PLOUGHING MATCHES IN CANADA. Yields Five First Prizes. ENGLISH OPINIONS.

When we introduced the DUX PLOUGHS last Season we had only a few samples to distribute, and these, on account of their-'light-cess, were accepted with some misgiving - by purchasers. Actual work in the tussock soon changed the opinion of the owners, and now we ore meeting with a considerable demand. Ib will be remembered th&t the First Doubleturrow Dux sold in the colony was Bent to John Fletcher, of Kjeburn, who wrote us that he was turning 2£ acres of tussock land per day, using only -two horses. The Single furrow .showed equally good results. This is the Plough that Beat All Comers for the Scottish Championship at the Dumfries and Kirkcudbrightshire Trials, ga'ning First and Second Prizes, beating Ransom*, Howard, Oliver, Storey, and all comers. Moisrs Jack and Son, of Maybole, took up the agency, and sold 2ooo to 3000 of these Ploughs in the most conservative country in the world. The makers of the Dux (Cock.Bb.uti and Co.) write us : — 'J There were sixmateKbS in all held in this province, at which we won five firsts and a good number of seconds and thirds. In the sixth the Field considered we were entitled bo first,, although the judges awarded it to another luaker. You fee it was the last trial of the season, and our competitors had to do something to beat us." A* the Hamilton Ploughing Match, November 6, 1895, where the MasseyHarris Company wtre competing (and where they bad evidently given the prizes — a custom we objected to so strongly in connection with the Invercargill Binder Trial some yearn ago), the Cock'hutt ploughs won first and third in the Champion Cissi — money prizes and a Massey-Harr's (verily) plough ; first and second in the next class (money prizes and a MasseyHarris plough), and Sub and second in the Jointer Class.

This will show intending buyers the record of the Cocksbufct Ploughs at Home and in Canada, and the following news clipping from the New Zealand Herald of January 23, 1896, will be oi interest to farmers who want to economise in horse flesh and ficstcost of implements without any sacrifice of efficiency :—: — " The Dux Plough appears to be a decided success, upwards of a thousand having bsen sold during the n-st season. Not long since the agents in the old country wrote to Professor M'Connell, Ongar Park Hall, Efsex, asking him to try one of the Dux Ploughs on the stiff eky lands of Essex. To -this request the author of the * Agricultural Notebook ' replied *as follows : — ' A few years ago I made a trial of tome nine ploughs here to - try -and find one which would do better work than the old E-s'X woodfn plough, both as to work and draught (with the dynamometer test). I was no'; quite satisfied with any of these ploughs, and am looking out ■for a better one ; but I certainly do nob care to purchase until I hive made an exhaustive trial of it. The land here is like sticky soap, and -one half of the ploughs made would be of ne use on ib.' On receiving the above letter Messrs Jack and Son forwarded a Dux Plough to the | professor for tri J, and the following is a copy of tha professor's report, which is dated Novenubsr 14, 1b95 : — " ' The Dux Plough is doing "better work than I have ever been able to get done on thin ■ land before, and it is the tenth plough I have tried, all by different makers. Please -send another of the same immediately.' " CALL AND SEE SAMPLES. The Double-furrow Dux is essentially a twohorse steel plough, and is sold at £10 10s, free on rail Dunedin. It will save you a lot of Sooner in repairs, draught, and general efficiency ; and early application is necessary to secure them.
