X. Y. Z. gives but an incorrect solution of Tourney Problem No. 3— namely. 1 K-B 8, but it is evidently a clerical error. -Hib solution of No. 4is correct— l point. A. Y. and Cromwell both give 1 K-B 7 for a solution of Problem No. 3. and the composer's solution of Problem No 4. A Y." gives a second solution for No. 3, "which appears to be a true bill and entitles him to 4 points ; Cromwell, 2 points. SiNBiU) gives 1 K-R 2, evidently meaning 1 K-R 7, as the solution of No. 3, atid also gives the composer's Folution of No. 4— 2 points. He says it is his first attempt at solving problems, a fact which excuses and justifies the correction of an error in notation. W. D. B.— An error of the kind you mention may be corrected. We accept the two sound problems for ths- tourney and cancel the unsound one. Svengali.— Thanks for letter and solution— 4 points. Match will come off Problem No. 2, - 2 key moves. Problem No. 4, the key is very .weak. Surely a better one could have been found.
