ALLEGED CHILD DESERTION.

At the City Police Court on Monday, last, a young woman named Elizabeth Jaue Phillips (for whom Mr Hanlon appeared)' pleaded guilty to intending to desert her illegitimate child.— Sergeant O'Neill stated that on the 4th of this month the defrs'dant celled on Mhs Neviaon,'who was connected with the Ohriitian Association, and axked her if sbe would get .i person to look after a child, saying she Wtta willing to pay 7a a week for us maintenance. The police were informed of the matter, and the girl having heai'<l of th s vrtoit to the station and said she would Bee Mia- Nevison, but she had not done so Miss Nevisun, being afraid the girl was going to leave the town, obtained a warrant for ncr arrest, and tbe def»ndant wa* taken into cu»tody on Saturday night in a boarding-house in Moray place. — Mr Hanlou mentioned that Miss Neviion was auxious to avoid having thn «irl committed to prison. It was for the iv»%on tint she told falsehoods about the niattor that Miss Nevison took procemiiugh. — Iv answer to the Bench, Misn Neviaon stated that the girl's parents lived up-country.— Mr Hanlon said that the father of the child lived aißalclutha, and had not denied paternity.— Tk* case was adjourned till Thur»day to allow Mr Hanlon to communicate with the father of tha child as to its maintenance.
