UNIVERSITY OF NEW ZEALAND.

A special session of the University Senate was held on the 22udinst. at the Univertity of Otago Buildings. There were present : The Chancellor (Sir J. Hector), Professors Sale, Shand, Scott, and Balmond, and Mr Milne.

The' Senate considered the detailed reports of the examiners in England for the November examinations of 1895, and pasfed the following resolutions (the Senate will mceb again today to consider the results of the fpecial medical oxatoinfttions juet conoluded, and will then adjourn till next weak at Wellington to confer degrees on those candidates whose names appear in the following lists a« having passed final examinations, but whoee fees may have b^ea sent to the University Office, Wellington, within the prescribed time) :—: — 1. That the thanks of the Senate be given to the Council of the University of Otago for the accoinmoda'ion afforded to the Senate for tha present session. Mr P. J. O'Regan delivered an address fit Blacky Point one day last week, and received a rote of thanki and confidence. He strongly favoured an elective Ministry and the referendum, a policy of Freetrade, and direct taxation. The unemployed difficulty was, ho considered, due to the artificial scarcity of land, the result of a syitem , of ignoring natural rights.
