A Technical Classes Association has been formed at Invercargill.
Mr A. L. J. Tait, of Dunedin, has invented a Tisefnl instrument for cleaning cooking utensils or Teasels- that may be a great trouble to clean after cooking such foods as porridge, &c. Tbe instrument is neat) handy, and cheap. The pot', it is claimed, can be scraped, scrubbed, and wiped with this instrument in less than half the time it takes to clean them with any other means offered to the public. The invention ■hoold certainly prove a great convenience to ill o*e undertaking culinary work, and the iastruB__i is likely to bs in demand.
Operations in connection with the GreymouthPoint Elizabeth Company's contracts are to be started at once. These consist of the bridge across the Grey river, two railway contracts,. and platelaying. The cost will amount to £25 000. The company have resolved to carry out the work on its own account, and Me H. Bignell, contractor, Greymoutb, has been appointed manager for the purpose. Mr Napier Bell, the company's consulting engineer, is on his way to Greymouth by the Wainui to initiate the whole undertaking. The first sod on the No. 5 contract is expected to be tdrned on Monday, 4th Me*
