The Obn'go Golf Club held its monthly cony petition for the St. Andrew's Cross on Saturday). The links were in good order and there was an excellent muster of members. Unfortunately 1 a strong wind was blowing, and this militated to a certain extent against accurate play, but in spite of this there were some very good onrds handed in. The round resulted in a tfo between Mr H. Haeneil, jon. (owe 4 strokes) and Mr Stilling (4 ■trokes) with a neb round of 98 (04 +4, aud 102-4). The tie will require to ba played off. Sir Maoneil's round of 3f was an excellent performance. Mr W. O. MacGregor (2 ntrokes) catae next wibh 100 neb (102-2). The course is gradually getting into better order, bat is really a very serere test of play, and anything in the neighbourhood of 100 may safely be reckoned good golf. The short handicap men continue, as will be seen, to take first places, and, apparently, to bring the competitor* into line, most of. the longer handicaps will require something additional :—: —

The oth«r players were ovev 120 net, cc did not return their card*. The tie for second place in the mixed foursome handicap competition againat Colonel Bogey, iv which Mm Ogston and Mr J. O. Rattray and Mr Stilling (3 strokes)— the latter pair proving successful and being one hole up at the finish. The other two pairs halved the round. This evonb is pl*ycd by holes, the full round of 18 holes being the course. The players are drawn against each other, and each round is played by a date fixed. The April Monthly Medal competition ot the Dunedin Golf Club was held on Saturday. Tee course was the sama as the last -St. Andrew Cross round on the combined links ol Balm&cowen and Tbe Lea. . There were about the average n v mber of entries. A strong northwest wind affected the scoring considerably, especially some of the players who do not excel in getting away skimmers againct the wind, ot in playing a high flying ball with the wind. The most hazardous play of the day was "putting" on a keen green exposed to the wind, which harassed even the most experienced players. The honour of the day was won by Mr D. Campbell, who held the best card of ths 11 handed in. Mr Jss. M. Laicg tied with Mr R. T. Wheeler, jun. f for second. The following are the cards not exceeding 120 net : — ' Mr D.
