TUAPEKA WEST.

April 27.— The harvest just finished has been, a prolonged ope. This has been a good growing Beason, but we have not had sufficient heat for ripening the crops, which prolonet- d: the harvest, particularly the wheat During the Utter part of Kebrua y and the early part of March it showed very little appearance of ripening, hut it was filling well during this time, and has. reaped well in tbe end, and i«- Hknly to thresh well after being matured in tht- »tacks for a month or two. Oats 1 that have been threshed have not turned out according' to expectations. The high winds of February and th< small birds are to blame for this. The small biid pest is a matter which will have to be attended to, or they will become worse than the rabbit*.

Political. -The Hon. Mr Larnach has been here addressing the electors of the district, giving us an account of himself since he was elected to represent th<- district He was well received. He saiH he w«« a supporter of the present Government, but did ni>t support them ih every measure they brought forward. He received w vote of thvnks and confidence.

Accident.— A painful accident happened here a few d»yß ago. A little boy, the son of Mr J. Fahey, was riding in a dray with his uncle. Mr P. F»hey, when tbe lock of the tip became loose, and the dray tipped up. In the fall the uncle fell on, the little fell.iw, breaking his thigh.. Dr Newell' was summoned, and set the broken limb, and now the little sufferer is doing as well as can b«s' expected* Hahvfst Home.— This celebration took place in the local schoolhouse last week. It- being a wet. night the attendance was small, and financially the affair was not & success.
