Ladies and Gentlemen,— I have pleasure in again offering myself as a CANDIDATE for ELECTION to the BOARD of the A.M.P. It is uonece.sary forme to referat leugch to my official convection with the Society, I extending as it did over a considerable period of its history, during which I was instiumenal in briuging a large vi lume of business to the institution, or to ray election as one of your directors at a comparatively recent date, an honour for which 1 am deeply grateful to you. In again offering myself for election, 1 do so believing that I can be of considerable service to you, for as you are doubtless aware from the published opinions of another c<ui((i'iaie (Mr R. M. Pitt) there is to be a determined effort made — if that gentleman succeeds in scuiitig election — to extend the operation* of tLe Moeiety to Great Britain. This proposal is of vei y serious import to the future well-being of the Society. It is a leap in the dark, which I shall deem it my duty to oppose. If in the future there should be a growiDg feeling in favour of the adoption of tuch a course, the proposal should unquestionably be submitted to a special vote of the vmembers. In the meantime^ -remembering the spl-nd : d l»usi»ess of the Society and its great magnitude, we ; should leave well alone. Trusting that I shall beagiin favoured with the hearty support which was previously accorded me by New Zealand members of the Society, . I am, yours faithfully. B. SHORT.
