THE IMPERIAL BUDGET.
London, April 17. Sir Michael Hicks-Beach, Chancellor .of the Exchequer, said that they had had a wonderful year. The receipts showed Llll,O74:,OoOattdtheexpenditureL97,764,OOO. The surplus in band was the largest for 50 years. The National Debt had been reduced by L 8,000,000. He estimated the revenue for next year at L 10 1,755,000 and the expenditure at L 100,047,000. The surplus would be applied as follows : To preventing the levying of double death duties, L 200.00 0; to reduction of the land tax, L 100.00 0; to relief of the agricultural rates, L 975.00 0; to education, L 433.000. The whole .of this year's surplus will be doTOted to the Navy. April 19. First class ic vestments are firmer, owing to the Budget. Consols are at 112.
