I.C. -The following, reoiperfor a powder which wiltmake a refreshing and. wholesome effervescing drink may answer the purpose :— Take of finely-powdered white sugar, 4£oz", dried carbonate o£soda,loz; dried tartaric acid, loz; strongessence of -ginger, 45 drops; e*senca- of lemon, 35 drops. Mix theessences well with the sugar in a basin, then add the other ingredients. Keep ia a dry- place in a well-stoppered bottle. A tablespoonful added to a tumblerful of water makes a drink. Novei. Reader.— The Lazzaroni (until lately a epecri&l class of the- inhabitants of Naples). They bad no fixed habitation?, regular occupations, or secure means' of subsistence, but occasionally obtained employment as porters, boatmen, etc.
