SATURDAY'S MATCHES.
The Zingtiri-Bichmond held a practice on Saturday between a Probable Fifteen and the Club. A fast, open game resulted in the Probables winning by 33 points to 3. The passing of the Probables' backs was all that could be desired, but the forwards are a little behind in scrum work. The Alhambra Club held their match, Captain v. Deputy-captain, at Opaho, .which resulted in a draw, each side scoriug 21 points. The ground was in fine condition, and good, fast play was shown on both sides. The Pirates held a practice match at Carisbcook on Saturday — Captain (blacks) v. De-puty-captain (colours)— when there was a Urge attendance of players. A fairly fast game resulted, the Captain's sida winning by two tries and a goal '(11 points) to two goals (10 points). The following scored for the Blacks : Shand (two tries, after floe dathing runs), Matheson -(one try, which was converted) ; and for the Colours — Neill one try, Prietfc one try, both of which were converted by Friett with fine kicks. The University- Club held a practice at Tahuna Park on Saturday. About 26 members played. Sides were chosen by tbe Captain and Depoty^captain. The game throughout; was very fast, and ended in a win for the Deputycaptain's side, by five goals (24 points) to two goals and two tries (16 points). For the Captain's side O'Neill, Cran, Stephens, and Graham scored, and Cran placed two goals. For the Deputy-captain's side Gibson (2), M'Laren, and O'Shea scored tries. All four were converted — three by O'Shea and one by Neill. O'Shea kicked a goal from a mark. The Caversham Club held a practice at St. Clair, Captain v. Daputy-capUin. There was a large attendance of members, victory resting with the Captain's side by 19 points to nothing — Lawry (2), Scott, Yates, and Barron securing tries, and Simpson and Lawry placing one goal each. The game was of a fast nature, passing rushes being the feature of the play. The Pacifld played a practice match at Tahuna Park, the Probable- Fifteen against Allcomers. Some splendid individual play was shown by the new members. Victory, however, rested with the Probables by 24 points to 3. The Zealandia (Association) Club played President v. Vice-preßident. After a good game the President's tide were victorious, scoring 8 goals to their opponents' 5. The gam* at times iras very fast, and several new members showed excellent form. The Dunedin Club, at the Caledonian I ground on Saturday, played a match Blues v. Colours, victory in the end resting with the Colours by 12 points to 10. The game was fast, but this was evidently due to the small number of players on either side. The Union Club's match was President 7. Vice-president, when the latter won by a good margin. The Borutn work of the forwards on the losing side (mostly last year's senior players) left room for a considerable amount of improvement. The backs played fairly well. On the winners' side all the backs showed good form, and the forwards were quite equal to their opponents,
