LAKE COUNTY.

April 11.— There has been a break in the weather, and a few days' rain has interrupted harvest and threshing operations. However ,_ the weather continues warm and pleasant, if {.till a little cleudy. Holidays. -The Easter holidays were duly observed by both young and old, and the weather being fiae, excursions of all kinds were largely patronised The festivities and ceremonies will be brought to a close at several 1 cal churches by thanksgiving services for the present bountiful harvest.

Death.— lt is announced that John, the second son of Mr John Aspinall, of Skipper's Point, Shotover, met with an accident in' Western Australia by which he lost his life. The young man was in his twenty-second year, and was much respected by all who knew him. No particulars of the accident are to hand. On Sunday morning last Alexander MAuley, a miner from the Nevis, was found dead in liis bed at Mtb O'Kane's hostelry at Queenstown. He had arrived the night before, and had rmde no complaint of any kind. At the inquest Dr Douglas stated that deceased had died from apoplexy, and a verdict to that effect wa3 returned. The deceased, who was about 31 years of age, was much thought of by his friends, quite a number of whom came from the Nevis to attend the funeral, which took place on Tuesday last, the Rev. R. Blair (Presbyterian) officiating at the grave.
