For heavy ■ weight crossbred wethers and ewes of prime quality aud for all sheep suitable for export there was a most animated demand, and, t«ken all through, the prioes obtained for prime fat sheep wore higher than we have uver (teen them at Burnside before. Quite a number of lots of prime crossbred wethers and maiden ewes averaged over 20j per head to-day, a most satisfactory state of things from the grower's point of view at all events. Medium quality shcop, on the other hand, owi"g to their unsuitability for tlie town trade, and also owing to the fact that the pastures are as yet iv a very backward state, were very dull of sale, and those who wen abla to take advantage of the stata of to day's maiket for this class of stock, when prices were decidedly in f«vour <.f buyers, should reap a lundhome profit within a very short period. Since last report two importaut sale* of store cattle have been held— one at Burmade on the 10th inst., and the other on the 15th at Bftlclutha. At both these sales grown cattle were well competed for, but the younger sorts met with less inquiry ; notwithstanding this the bulk of the entries changed hands at full rates.— The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limimed) sold 1G!) head forward-RO' ditioned steers at full market ratefl.— The Farmers' Agency Company (Limited) report selling by auction, at Dunne's yards, Balclutha, on Tuesday, 2£G as follows .•-&) bullocks at £5 14 a, 20 at £5 5a, 3< at M & 6d, 26 cows at £4 2a, 4 stage at £6 ss, 60 twu-yoar-old bullocks at £3 2s Gd to £3 Gs, 123 younger mixed cattle at £2 12s Od to £4 10s. Stoic Sheep.— As usual at this time of the year, there is practically nothing Holng in this clftts of I stock— a few odd 10-s of hogget* in the wool being almost the only buaiuMS pacing. Country Sale*.— Tub New Zicaland Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limi ed) report having held their regular fortnightly wile by auction at the Crown Yards, Balclutha, on l'riday, 11th inU., when a good deal of business was put through, but owing to the dry we-ithor prevHiliupc and in consequence of the shortage in foed. prices, more ufpecially for sheep (t-xivpt for prime freezers), were lower on this occusioo. Their »ales wore : 94 c-orfhbred wathers nt 17-s, 215 do at KJs 4d. 526 do at 12b 9d to 12s Wd, 130 Ho hoggets at ins «d to lie ; a few *m.»ll pigs at 10a 3d to lls ; 1 hnck at £13.— The Muiual AGEf*CY Company of Nlw Zkalai'-d (Limited) report havins htld their usual fortnightly sale at the Crown Yards, Balclutha, on Friduy, 11th it^t. Wool.— The London saleß have closed very firm for all descriptions, with the exception of faulty, scoured meiinon, and the finer grades of croes-bre-Js, which are alighily wier Lomlly no business is rust-ing Ut wpeak of, the sales, being confined to small lots of oddments and dead wool. The trade generally are looking forward to lar^e offerings at the regular sales this season, *s the Dum'din telling charges have been reduced considerably, and now are the lowest iv the colonies, which should induce woolgrowers who have shipped hitherto to patronise the local sales. Sheepskins —The local sales are largely attended and every lot is t^ken up at vejy full lates. At the sales ou Tuesday, although bidding was brUk and the market firm prices oblaint-d were barely to good as thofo lining vi kbt week's sale-, the weakness being most appnieut iv inferior, dead, and badly saved skins. BlackH and silver greys, ou the other luiud, iv sympathy with the repons which h*ve lecntly come to band from London intimating a serious fall iv thuse qualities, show a decline ia this market of fully 2d par lb. Springs, of which there is a good proportion coming into tbo markot now, are not much sought after by buyers, ami price? for these range from 7d to lOd per lb, ncordmg to the amount of fur and general get-up of the skina.
