September 30.— The mild weather this niontb, besides bmng a pleaaunt change from the rough weather of a few months past, has allowed oi Beed-s.»wing being pushed forward ; there b>i proßpect of a change in the weather, however. Football -Our footballers pUye'l a match with Lawrence on Wednesday on their own ground, and received a humiliating defeat ; but that is the usual t-ile to tell of Waitahuna— we are getting quite used to defeats. Amuulance Leciorbs —Last Monday evening Dr Nieholl gave the last of a course of nr3t-aid lectures. Ilis lecture on Monday evening was on the firbt treatment of burn 3 and scalds, fits, restoration of drowning peraona, and the best method of lifting and earn ing the wounded, tha last two by practical illustration. At the close of tho lecture Mr M'Ara nude a presentation to tho doctor on b.:nalf of the class, thanking him sincerely for his disinterest -.d kindness in c >imng from Lawrence to deliver tho lecture*, and he expressed a hope that the doctor would find it possible to deliver a fuller course next winter. D* Nicholl is to give two lectures on nursma yet.
Ball.— Tho wind-up of the quadrille assembly take* place very shortly, and a good gathering is •xpectod.
