A GENERAL ADVANCE. London, September 25. At the wool sales best scoured is 7£ to 10 per cent, higher ; short clothing, 10 per cent. higher ; iambs, 5 per cent, higher ; bright and coarsa crossbreds, fully 20 per cent, higher; finer lots, 15 per cent, higher; scoured flakop, 7£ to 10 per cent, higher than the dosing rates of last series. Holranth Schwarlee and Co. 'B circular says that the improvement is most marked in greasy, medium, and econreds, and a lesser rise in the higher scouredß. Clothing is in strorjg demand, and croasbreds fully 15 per cent, dearer. The tone o€ the market is very strong. At to-day's wool sales 15,107 balss were offered. There was a good selection and a crowded attendance. The keenest competition took place amongst Home and foreign buyers, especially for medium merino combings and lustrous croasbreds. Compared with the July averages medium merino combings advanced 15 por oent. The arrivals number 261,460 bales, and the number forwarded to mannfacturirg districts direct is 67,500 bales. The number of bales available for the present series, including those held over from the last series, is 224,000. September 26. The wool sales continue animated, and .the advance in prioes is fully maintained. The wool sales are crowded. Competition is more regular, and is especially brisk for New Zealand. Bankhcuse brand realised lid ; Earusclargh, Is 4d. September 27. The wool sales are animated and prices have an upward tendency. At the wool sales New Zealand crossbreds were firmer, and Bradford tops advanced to the extreme prices quoted, but business was restricted. At the wool sales there is strong competition for good qualities and prices are well maintained. September 29. At the wool sales yesterday a medium selection was offered. Competition was stood, and prices remain unchanged. Cueviot Hills brand brought Bd. The total quintity of wool catalogued up to date ie 67,400 bales, of which 66,400 have been sold. Tbe Antwerp sales are fixed for the 22nd October. Adelaide, September 27. The wool snles opened with a record attendance, and competition was very keen. In all 14,000 bales were offered, and all were sold. The better olass of wool showed an advance of Id to l£d upon last year's opaning prices; faulty and inferior piecea and locks sold higher, but the advance was loss pronounced ; crossbreds realised up to 8 1 fer superior light- condi'ioned and 6d to 7d for ordinary lots ; while the selection of lambswool was poor and caused a tendency to drag, but the prices were equal to those of last year. Foreign buyers were largely represented, and showed a strong desire to operate. Sydney, September 30. Owing to the drought it ia anticipated that this season's wool dip will be 150,000 bales less than that of last season. Messrs Dalgety and Company have received the following cablegrams from their head office : Dated London, 24th September : — " Wool Bale* opened with a fair selection, very large attendance of buyers, and rionp'ititio i very animatsd. As c .inpnrtd with the closing rates of last Beties pneos are higher by 10 per cent, to 20 per cent. The total smount of wool available, including old stocks, ia 225,000 bales " The have also received a later cablegram from their head t ffioe, London, as follows: — '"Wool sales continue firm and active with brisk competition, and the market has tin advancing tendency." Dated 26th Septamber, : — " Wool : Sii.ce our last cablegram pricca are higher on an averege by 5 per cent. ; market excited, arid everyone wants to buy with the exception of Amoricnnc Sheepskins in general are higher by Id pf r Ib."
