" Why is it," sud one tf the company to the deaf man, "that deaf peisous are so often melancr oly ? " "What did jou say?" said tho deaf man, holding his hand to his ear. Tho question was tepettei to him. " Ifc is because," he said *adlj-, " wben people speak to us they only remind us of our infirmity." The questioner then turned to the blind man and asked him : " Why is it tbat blind persons are always so cheerful and happy ? " •• Because," ssid the blind man, smiling, " as soon as people btgia to speak to aa they always make us forget our misfortune."
