WAIHEMO COUNTY COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of th : s county council was held in the Council Chambers, Paltnt-rston, on the 17th, at which there wcm present— The Chairman (Mr T. Muir), Cm J. Hartafconge jun., M. Ifibister, D. Kennedy, It. Matueaou, D. Ross, and J. Hobs. DEPUTATIONS. MeeflM W. Craig, J. C. Gow, and J. Dnnoan waited on the council to urge keeping open tha road known as Cochraue's road, which pas-ed through private property. The deputation pointed out tbat the road was required for traffic purposes frcm the upt er and lower portions of Shag Valley, and, in addition to saving a considerable detour in going to ihe dairy factory with milk, it would prove a great convenience to a very large number of ratepa)er». Messrs W. Craig and G. Ro3B waited on the council in reference to the bridge cros«ing Ihe road leading to their properties in the Blue Mountain dUtrict, which, it was pointed out, hsd boen condemned some 10 years ago as being unsafe for heavy traffic, hut owing to tte Btate of the county fui ds had been allowed to stand over. The time had now arrived when it became absolutely necessary that the count il should do something towards securing the safety of the bridge, and it was suggested th^t a stone culvert should be substituted for the present Btructuie. — On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Cr Kv.isrßu, the couucil agreed to call for teudcit) for the work, cobt Lot to exceed £50. Mr Ireland, Goodwood, applied and was granted permission to erfct a fence oirtho road leading to the vilhge settlement to protect a live hoJge planted by him, the work to be done to the satisfaction of the inspector, and to continue duriug the pleasure of the council. The Seotetary of the Charitable Aid Board, Dunedin, wrote forwarding list of porsons in the county in rece'pt of outdoor relief. — Approved with certain exceptions. Mr J. V. M. Frasor, solicitor, Dunedin, wrote applying for particulsra in reference to Cocb.rane's property recently acquired by the Governmenb under bho Land for Sctblementa Act. — Information to bo supplied.
