An old body, nursing my wife iv Blackburn on one occasion, had for her son-in-law a pitman ; and her daughter, the pitman's wife, when the niotber was out nun-ing, did the cocking, but not very satisfactorily, I fear. The man called at my house one day, asking that " th' owd woman might return home as early as possible, for," said he, "th' wife made me a meat pie for my dinner jesterday, and in getting into th' cage to go down th' pit, th' pie fell to th' bottom, above 120 yds ; and, if you'll believe me, the crust wom'tbrokken."
