Lucas, Dimedin, writes :— ln Game 2370 — " Cros* " — played bitwecn M«mis M'llwrick and Buyca, at Note (b) we an* told that if Wnite plajs 27 23 iostead of 27 24 Bl ick wius by 7 10, 31 27, 2 7, 10 12, and k> on; but I think White wins by 27 23. 7 10, 31 27, 3 7 (if 2 7, 2(5 22, White wins), 25 22, Ac. The position ; at Notu (6) is illustrated on the White to play, diagram.— [Mr Brodie also notes this correction.— Dr. Ed ] Also in Game 2V73— " O:d Fourteenth "—played against Mr Reid, at the 57th move Black playß 811 aud lets White draw. Position :— Black men on 3, 5, 14, 19, k8 ; White men on 12, 20, 2i, k 10. I think 14 18 will win for Black, thus :— l4 18, 10 15, 18 23. 15 24, 8 11, 24 19, 23 26, 19 23, 2(5 30, 23 18, 30 25, 21 17, 25 21, 17 14, 21 17, 14 10, 17 14, 18 9, 5 14.— [Air Brodie also notes this correction. -Dv Ed.] Mr James Beecot, Mandeville, writes :— ln Problem 1315, by myself, the position is-Black men on 11, 17, 22, k 26 ; White men on 24, 29, ks 6, 10 White to move. I gave pi »y for a White win, but on going over the solution I find Black can draw as below at 12th move. 24 20 23 19 7 3 17 21 18 23 2tf 23 2 ? 16 12 14 18 11 15 0 2 19 16 10 14 21 26 Drawn. Mr D. A. Brodie writes as follows :— ln the " WhiJter " Game 2374 Mr Reid misses an easy draw at the 50th move. Position :— Black men on 5, 9, 13. 15, 20, 23 ; White men on 17, 21, 22, 29, 31, k 10. BUck to play. 16 1", 2i 15, 13 22, 15 11, 23 27, 31 24, 20 27, Drawn. And in the same game Mr Ai 'II wrick overlooked tht win at the 63fch move. Black men on 5, 9, 13, ka 27, 32 ; White men on 17, 19, 21, 22, 29, k 18. White to play. 19 15 32 23 10 6 15 10 16 27 23 15 10 19 15 29 25 Black 18 27 23 19 6 2 10 15 wins. In Game 2172—" Maid of the Mill "—in la3t
week's Witness, between Messrs H'llwrfflk UX$ ReH, at the 26th move we have the following position :— Black men on 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 ; White men on 12, 14, 13, 23, 24, 30, 31, 32. White to play. Mr M'llwrick pluyed 33 27, and allowed Mr Roid to draw. Instead of 32 27 play thus :—
then 14 18, 25 29, 18 22, White vrtna. Note (c), in " Old Fourteenth " game betweon Messrs Sim and Brodie, referred to last week by Mr Lucas, should have wad " Drawn."
