THE LADIES' GOLF TOURNAMENT.

A good start was made on Monday morning with the Ladi«s' Golf Tournament in spite of the very inclement weather — a cold south-west wind and rain showers. Play began with the first round of the Championship, for wbich there uere 13 byes, leaving only thuee matches to be played. Thete resulted as follows :— Mrs Wilder beat Mw Vornon by 3 up and 2to play. Mn Higgins beat Mrs Scott by 9 up and 7 to Mrs Pyne beat Mrs Gould fey 5 up and 3 to play. The next event was the Handicap over 18 holes (meda.l vl<vy)for whioh 29 players teed off in apito of th-> cold aud boisterous weather.' The winner proved to be Mrs Higgius, wbo was again playing an excellent game. The following tie the score?, those not given being over 130 net:—

The second round in the Championship event was jplajed off on Tne*day afternoon. It was anticipated that there would be some very exciting matches, and such proved to bo the case. A large number of spectators — mostly of the fair soz— graced the links with their presence, and gave tbcm quite a -gay and festive appearance, lie weather was cow, but fine. Rattray (Dunedlu) by 2 hole". Mrs Stilling (Dunedin) beat Mi 33 Butterworth (Dunedin) by 9 up and 7 to play. Mrs Boyle (Christchurch) beat Mrs Ogston (Dunedin) by 1 hole. Mrs Mflland (Dunedin) beat Miss O'Brien fTiruaru) by 6 up and 5 to play. Miss Duncan (Wellington) has to replay Mrs M. Campbell (Christchurch). With regard to the Handicap Match, held on Monday, it should be mentioned that some of the boat players did not enter for it, as they were reserving themselves for the Championship.
