TAIKUI FERRY.

Septum bur 23.— A dance took place here on Friday last that far outshone all previous ones. It took place after a " ladiei' " evening of the local Literary and Musical Society, at which I had tho privilege of boing present? There were many people preaent, and all the ladies— the unmarried onea, at least— seemed as if they bad come ready for the dance. Besides, many of those who had taken parta in the scenes and tableaux of the early part of the evening appeared in the costumes of their parts. The Misses B. Craigie, H. M*K»Rg, and H. Peattio appeared in tho appropriate dresses of their piece, representing "Tfce Rose, Thistle, and Shamrock." Miss Lamont, in evening dress (yellow and mauve), had been " In the Gloaming " ; Miss 1. M'Kegg-hatl been " Chousing the Mibtletoe," in a green robe wi'h white bows; Miss Sinclair had bean nurring "Somebody's Darling," and all three reappeared in tTe (Knee in the same costumes.; Although Vts< Sherburd had had a most Euitable charncter .'uuah for " Caller Herrin'," she did noj; think it fmit;c for the dance, but chose a very chaste one of uiiiie aud grey. Misses Hell Hoddioott, Knte Lamont, and Martha M'Keg« had been in voluminous foidß of white, repreumting astatuary effect of " Faith.Hope.and Charity," but Hope only changed colour ( coD>iDg out in a terra cotta costume with ffrev silk and sleeves, all trimmed with laoe. Miast s Ina and Maud Craigie reappeartsd in the white robes of their paits, but Miss Jessie M'Kerg. who had b«en in "Good Ni^hfc" with tbe latter, came out in a dark dress. Miss Mary M 'K<-gi< retained her cream and white fireas In which she had played the youn^kdy's part of " Pirst Love " with Misa Mary Peattie, wlio had doffed her " Little Lord Fauntleroy " suit for one of cream and white too. Misses Julia Sinclair, Efcthor Sinclair, and Peattie had no need to put off their costumes for others, but c*ine in their black skirt and shirt bodice, velvet and lace, and brown skirt and wbita bodice costumes used in their "Private and Confidential " part. Miss Bella Sinclair had to put off her soldier's coat of "Somebody's Darling," and came out in bUck skirt and pink bodice ; while Miss Watson, who ■had in her time played many part*, Icoksd very tbandfeome in pink and grey trimmed with lace, Mauy other ladies who had come us spectators alsc appeared in the dance, but though some were even more handsomely dretsed thnu those others whom 1 have noted, it is not my p;u t at preaent to call attention to them.— [Received too late for the Ladies' Page.] --
