Oh, Where Is It?— " Where on earth h the local branch of the Otago Central Railway League now that something is to be dene in the way of defending the homes and lands of our people from an uu just taxation ? The Government dare* to ask us to accept the provision* of the Betterments Bill without proteßt. What we want v a railway, and nothing short of a railway will reconcile us to a residence of a life's duration in theße bleak and inhospitable wilds. What care we about the presence of a railway enhancing the value uf onr holdings? We'll protest agunttt further taxation, and at the same tine cry out the louder for railway communication with the outer world ; such reasoning is logical and quite in accordance with our vinws of what in just aud equitable.
Minino. — The incoming Reason promises to bo an exceptionally favourable one for tbe miner, as there seems to be a good tupply of snow on the mountains and water will be plentiful for some time to come.
