September 2 —With the change in the weather, which is extremely welcome, a great improvement is noticeable in our clay roads, and it J8 to be hoped the council will see their way clear to put them in thorough Rood repair, as the visiting season has already commenced. Friday, when the school children, under the abe supervision of Mr A. Chrißtie, planted a goodly number of trees and deeds. The children started work at about 10 o'cluck, snd adjourned for refreshments supplied by Miss Lizzie Steel, which the children heartily enjoyed. After ibis work was resumed and continued until nhout 2 o'clock, when the children sat down to light refreshments, and pawed away the rtsi of the day in amusing themselves. At the finish hearty cheers were /given for the teacher, Miss M. Steel, also for Miss §j Steel for the refreshments, and for Mr A. Christie for kindly assisting in planting tha trees. Miscbllahbol's.— Mrs Christie is again to the front In opening her house for tho su minor seaion.—We can now boast of a good supply of fresh mutton and be*f iv our di«trict, as Mr Matthew Baxter, of Brighton, bss started slaughtering. He eeems to be doing fairly well.— The residence of Mr R. B. DennUton is now finished, and as it is on a high elevation, it has somewhat the appearance of a castle.
