Notes from Wakatipu.

' (From Our Own Correspondent.)

Arrowtown, August 31 —The lode recently striick in the Victor Emmanuel claim has not yet been sufficiently exploited to enable the tributers to say whether or not it is the continuation of tho lode from which previous owners of the claim obtained the stone that went loss to the ton. Ther« is a probability that it in an entirely new shoot. It was struck 285 ft from the tunnel mouth, and is 80ft from No. 1 Bhoot. About 16ft before striking it tho tributors came upon a leader about 4in ia widthshowing rich gold, which led them on to the reef. Exactly the same thing occurred in the discovery of No. 1 Bhoot. At present the tributers have drivea 15ft on thi lode and prove 1 it to be IBm wide and still widening, gold being pretty freely distributed throughout the whole width of the stone. Whatever tlie new shoot of stone may turn out to be, it shows the truth of what ban been so often repeated in this column— Ußnirly, that the Macetown ree r 8 have »ot been properly prospected. In further suppvrt of this dictum it m*y be pointed out th*t the Victor Emmnnuel claim lias passed through several hands, and a good deal of work has beeu done iv the mine, but bow wh«n work is carried out on a systematic pl»n one dis-covery follows another. There are many abandoned mines at Mawtown in which far less prospecting has been done thau m the Victor Emmanuel.

By the papsonger list of tha Toueariro, recently arrived at Wellington, I notic* the name of Mr F. Eva»6, wbo coiu«b out to take charge of the Achiltei Goldfields Company, Skipper*. It is expected that work in the mine will be resumed directly afUr his arrival. It is also expected that immediately upon his arrival upon the ground Mr Stanford will pui the Glenrock Company's mine, Macatown into full work.
