The Story of a Flag.
Madame Petitpied has just presented to M. Felix Faure the flag which her late husband, or rather she herself, saved from the clutch of tha Grermans. Colonel Petitpied was in command of an artillery regiment at Btrasburg. On its
capitulation, he hid the flag of the regiment in a cellar. While he was a prisonrr at Coblonz, Madame Petitpied returned lo Sfcrosburg, wonb to the house, which was then full of Prussian soldiers, and secretly removed the fUp, by hiding it in the lining of her infant child's cloak. The precious trophy will henceforward be deposited in the Hotel dcs Invalides. Tbis incident is not altogether unfamiliar to Frenchmen. M. Zola has made use of it in his "Le Dtbasle," varying, however, the actual circumstances. It is questionable nevertheless whether & flig preserved iv this fashion is a very glorious relic. It dots not alter the fact that Strasburg did capitulate.
