STANZAS.
There is sorrow, there is sadncsa, Round about us everywhere ; O'er the sunuy smile of gladness Loom unbidden shades of care. There is grief at ev'ry turning ; Thro' a way bedewed with tears Marches on, for over mourning, The procession of the years. In the morning of existence When the bloom is on the scene ; In the days when, in the distance, Beckons Hone with smiling mienThen the rosy light of laughter May illume the way before, But the d^rkue-s coming after Bids it flee for ever more. All the swift, succeeding ages, All the centuries to be, On Life's drear, uncertain pages Shall this light and shadow see— Passing gleams of joy a supernal Weary years of woe aud crime, Till the voice of the Eternal Calls the muster roll of time. Then, ye Eingere, in your singing Seek the sunward halls of light ; And when Hope from earth is winging Let sour song restrain its night. Soar ye still on joyful pinion, Cull the floweis with g< ntle art That embellish your dominion For the desert of the heart.
