THE BIRCHWOOD HUNT CLUB.

HUNTING.

In spite of the very wet weather there was a very fair muttering of followers of the hounds of the above club's meeting at Mr T. Finn's homestead, Wairio, on Saturday, the 6th iust., over which, and the adjoining farms of Messrs M'Leod, Devuney, and Holloran, Messrs Firm and M'Aunally had gone to a lot of trouble in preparing a good line of country. After partaking of Mr Finn's hospitality, the hounda were laid on, and ran at a good p&ca across well trimmed gorse hedges and capped wire fences, including four roadline doubles ; and considering the abate of the going the horses jumped admirably, and there were very few miebaps. The field consisted of Mrs Spencer on Kitty ;Mr Spencer, Dandy ; Mr J. Smith, Conqueror ; Mr, P. M'Annally, Fairy Qaten ; Mr J. Tenn&nt (acting-master), Robin ; Mr C. Henderson, Nero ; Mr J. C*meron, Wildboy ; Mr James Millar, Surprise ; Mr G. Groves, Killarney ; Mr Keloher, The Orphan ; Mr J. Walker, Otautau ; the huntsman (Mr W. Duncan), Grace Darling ; and the whip, Corsair. In addition to these there Tsere a few more whose names I could nob catch. After thanking and giving three cheers for our host and the farmers who had so generously given free use of their country, and partaking of some more refreshments, we wended our ways homewards, having had a nice ride in spit) of the raio, and hopiDg for better wet.ther at our next meet. Flying Scud.
