Joly B..— Nothing but weather is the topic of local gossip at present, so you may judgj it is not very cheerful. Such weather has not bo^n experienced for the last 2D years. However, we are not so badly off as we might bs, for on account of our low altitude uo suow has lain, aud consequently with the mild weaiher and rain and scarcity of rabbits, owing to the summer poisoning chiufly, the stock on the lulls are well off for feed aud are looking woudorfully well considering tho wet weather. Indeed, tney are far batter off than those on turuips. Tha roads are in a bad state, but no greit damage has been caused to bridges or culverts. Postponed. — A concert which was to have been held on the sth July has been put off for a month on account of the weather. Eager for the Fray. — The health of the community is good consid«riug all things, and farmers in general are very eager to get on the land as soon as possible, all farming operations being at a standstill, and horses eating their heads off in thn stables. The lake is high, and several dead sheep have been seen, having floated down fiom the upper reaches of the Taieri. The professor was going out in a boat to-day to earn an honest penny in taking their bkins, and I hope he may be succebsful, as it is a pity to see their skins floating out to sea when this capital might be kept in the colony. .
