REPENTANCE.
Feet that were tired and sore, A heart that wa-> weary ana faint, A soul that yearned for foigiveness Paused outside the chuich door quaint. The church was dimly lighted, But the door stood a little ajar, " And the light that burned in the vestry Cast thadows wide and far. Strains of inu3ic, sacred and sweet, Fl >ated out on the coi 1 night air,— The"siiJger.i as^emMed within the church Were charting the Saviour's Prayer. With' s'artling clearness the words swept out Fiom the church solemn and dim, — It seemed as if God himself were speaking From Htaven dhect to him. "Our Father, which art in Heaven, Halloaed be thy name"— He bowed his head on his hands and wept Tt.aro of repentance and shame ! "Foigive us our t-espasses, Loid" — He choked back the sobs in his throat. No sound came from his trembling lips, But he quivered with every note. " Deliver us out of evil" — How 11' e words cut to hiß heart, In oue we<ik hour of Inuptation He had f,»lien from God apart.
