Gilrnour 2, P. Gibson 3. The entries aie not quite so numerous as Usfc year, but this is duo to ft large ex'eut that the show clashed wi'h the Ckriatclu'ch show, and consequently a good many large exhibitors a:o not rr-presented this year owing to thiir h&ving sent tbeir birds to Chii'tohurch. Iv point of quality, Lowever, the exlrbits are not quite up to thosa of last year. The deficiency is principally noticeable in the fowls, but as against this tho pigeon?, as a class, are a fine lot cf birJs. 'Ihe piiz3 winwr in black led gtme cocks is a fine reaoliy biid, -and posseafej net a few good points. The second prize-taker is s better shaped Litd, bat was put out by having an odd eye. The first prize-winner among the hens is ss good a bird as may be seen anywhere, and the class as a whole is very fair. Tbeblack red cockerel taking firtt prize is also a good bird, but th,e rest call for no special mention. One of the entries is said to be ma« ported, but he was "out of it." Ho his neither colour nor form. The first prizo pullet is very small, but »eat.. The second prizo* taker is a larger bird, but course in feather. The brown red cocks possess no special merit;. The first prize-taker comes horn Duned.in, but seems fco have little life in him. The first priza hen is fair, but hardly " reaohy " enough. Tho three prizc-Ukera in the brown red cockerel cl»B8 are fair birds, while tho pullets are also an even lot. The duokvrings and piles are also gcod. No special mention need be made of tho Himburgs and Plymouth Rocks. The Spanish cocks and hoas are all good birds. The Spanish cockerel taking first prize is a feature of the show. It is to be tent to the champion thow in Wellington, and it will be a matter for little surprise if it carries off the gold nudtl. The Minorcas as a class show up well, while tho first prize-taker among the white Leghorn cocks is a capital specimen of the breed, hut the Leghorn bans as a class are better than the cocks. There is no noteworthy exhibit among tho .Dorkings. This derciiption of poultry is sup-.-posed to lie the best for t&ble purposes, but the breed docs not seem to meet with favour amongst fanciers. The light Brahmas are fair, but the three Wyand^ttes shown are poor, there being no marking on them at all. The bantams all through are an excellent claes. A pair of very fair Rouen ducks are shown, bufc are nothing like the size they should be. Somcf specimens of wild dvi ks are also shown. Tho entries in the pigeon da»s are large and tho birds compare more than favourably with those shown last year, while the cage birds also embrace some fine specimen?. An effective display of bicycles and sewing' maefcines was made by Mr George G. Harper, . and the exhibits were examined with interest by thofe who were present.

lit Walter Johnson, in the Na"pier Deed*. OJlioe, noticing an object floating in tko water soir.e 60 yards from the shore, swam out, »nd brought the child of Mr Dennis M'Carthy to the shore. It was not until after come two hours' < rubbing and the use of restoratives that the c\ild regained consciousnees.
