OTAGO SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the School Commissioners of Otago was held ou Tuesday, when there were present — Messrs J. P. Maitland (chairman), J. W. Bain, J. Green, M.H.R., A. Baldey, and W. Dallas. A letter was received from the olerk of the Outram Town Board stating that the board was prepared to undertake the supervision of the filling-in of section 11, block 11, Outrara, if the commissioners would grant the sum of £10 in terms of the previous offer. — The amount was voted, the work to be done to the satisfaction of the Town Board. The Secretary reported that runs 326, Waikftia, and 6, Wairiki, had been taken up by Messrs D. Gil'anders and H. M. Spencer respectively at the upset of 2£d per acre. A number of transfers were considered and agreed to, and several applications for reductions were considered and d>^ clined. The Secretary reported that ho h*d advertised sections in Moeraki and Fapakaio for lease, sections to be sold at Oainaru on the Bth prox. Mr J. L. M'Donald reported recommending that each case referred to ia the Wendonside petition should be considered and dealt with on its merits. — Approved. The Commheionera' Agent forwarded a letter from Mr Gall, manager of the Otama run, asking that parties cutting timber ou the run should be cautioned.— Resolved that Me M'Donald be authorised to prosecute anyone removing timber from areas on this run. Mr M'Donald reported having .notified the lessee of section 10, block XI, Jacobs River Hundred, that unlees arrears were paid before the Ist inst. his lease would be terminated, and that no reply had been received. — Noted. A report; was also received stating that the lease of the coal pit on run 193, Wtndon, expired on the 20th December last, and recommending that the late tenant be offered the lease from year to year at £5 per annum until the expiry of the run. — It was decided to lease the area in question from year to year as suggested, The report of the sale of the leases of sections in Southland on the 17th ultimo showed that those sold realised a total rental of £361 9s 6d per annum. With reference to section 11, block 11, Wendonside, the secretary was instructed to write to the Southland Land Board calling attention to the fact that no revenue was at present being derived from the sections, and aeking the Land Board to take such steps as will Becure some rent being paid for the land. It was resolved that tenders be invited for sinking a well on one of the unlet sections in block IV, Wendonside. An application was received from Mr J. A. Merrifield to lease section 4, block IV, Jacobs River Hundred, passed in at the sale on 17th iust.— lt was resolved to lease the section at the upset of £8 per annum. Messrs John Crook and P. Daley applied to lease sections in the township of Waimatuku. — Resolved to invite tenders for unoccupied sections at prices to be fixed by Mr M'Donald. Mr J. Healey applied to lease block IV, Dipton, at 3s per annum. — Declined. A statement of the position of tenants in blocks 111, IV, and V, Wendonside, was received from Mr M'Donald.— lt was decided to instruct the agent to take steps to recover all arrears of a year or over. of run 6, and that, so far ag he is aware, no cropping has taken place during the past season. Accounts amounting to £60 0s 3d were passed for payment.
