OPENING OF A CHURCH AT WAITATI.

The new Roman Catholic Church at Waitatt was opened ou fiuuday by the Vety Rev. Father O'Lenry. Fathers Ljnch and Newport being prepetit. Notwithstanding the disngff'eablo weather there was a good attendance, anumbei having travelled from Dunedin in buggies and drags. Mass was celebrated by Father O'Leary, assitted by Father Newport, while Father Lynoh preached. The music for the occasion was that of Farncei's Mass in B fUr, the soloists being Mrs Sandys and Miss Horan treble, Misa Kate Blaney alto, Mr E. Eager tenor, and Mr W. Woodo ba<s, Miss D Iloran presiding at the organ. Cherubiid'fi u Ave Maria" was a'so sung by Miss Horan, and an " Aye Marift" by Luzzi was rendered by Miss Blimey, while Mr Eager sang "Consider the lilies how they grow," In the evening vespers were celebrated, the Muses Horan dinging as a duet an "0 Balutaris." The church itself is an exceedingly pretty one. It is 32ft by 18ft, and is capable of feat ing 100 persona. The situation is amoit denrnrle one, in the heart of the township, and aUos;tthcr the building, which has been cected under the gupervhion of Mr D. W. Woods, should be eminently suitable for the needs of the Catholics in the district. The collections during the day amounted to £50. \
