WAIRARAPA RELIEF FUND.

Auckland, May 14. At a meeting of the General Committee, held to receive the report of the Bub-commiltee of the Wairaripa relief Fund and to arrange for the final diiposal of the balance now in hind, the secretary (Mr J. Barber) read the report of the investigation and sub-committees, which, after giving a history of the various relief effortp, states :— Statements of losses were received from 43 male and 11 female paßtengers and 33 meintera of the crew. After investigation 33 male and 10 female passengers and 26 members of the crew were assisted by the Auckland committee. It is now suggested that tbe Auckland committee should rote £150 (including the epecial contributions named) of the fund for the late Mrs M'DoDald's family. The -sab-committee recommends that £10 be granted to the aged parents living at OUhuhu of a young man lost in the wreck. This will leave only two cases to be dealt with— two widows residing at Auckland. In the caw of a widow with four childreD, the committee recommends the appropriation of £350 from the Auckland fund to be added to the £200 from Wellington and invested ia the purchase of a fcouss. In the case of the other widow, who

has only one child, the comoitltse recommends {hat £300 be handed to the Public Trustee to be paid to tho widow at, say, 253 a week for two jeara and 10s for so long thereafter a? the mot ey will allow. Including the vot« from Wellington there is a balance of £1062 173. The committee recommends its disposal as follows:—For Mis Veal and family, £550 ; Mrs Croucher and child, £300 ; nged couple at Otahuhu, £10 ; Mrs M'Donald's family, £150 ; total, £1015; leaving a balancs of £52 17s. After the preparation of the neces'ai-y deeds it is expected this bala- C 5 will be reduced to £37. The ttitormnb cf accounts showed the total recoip's by the Auckland committee to ba £1427 133 9d, and expenditure £SGI 16s 9J, leaving a balance of £862 17s. This, with £200 vottd by the Wellington committee for Mrs Veal, gives £1062 173. The report was adopted and tbe grants approved. It was resolved that after the payment of all claims and charges the balance be handed over to tbe fund now b.ing raised for the widows aud children of the two Lcucis recently drowned at Oaehuoga.
