October 6.— The weather at present is fine — too fine, in fact, for farmers, who, owing to hardness and dryness of tbe soil, are unable to proceed satisfactorily with the sowing of their crops. Some showers of rain would be welcomed here at the present time. School Matters. — The Kaik School was examined by Inspector Taylor on the llth ult , with the result that nearly all the pupils succeeded in pas-ing their standards, there being only four failures out of 55 present. The inspector also reported that th« order, attention, and manners of the pupils were good. — The Taiaroa head school is progressing under Miss Morgan's management, a state of affairs which must be gratifying to all concerned. At the recent examination there was only one failure out of some 23 pupils on ihe roll, and I understand the general report by the inspector was a good one. Creamery. — The timber for th^ building about to be erected by the New Zealand Dairy Farmers' Co-operative Company is now on the ground awaiting tbe carpenters. I hope to be able to say in my next that the creamery is in working order.
