At the wool sales American sorts were dear, and short faulty easier. October 4. The wool offered to-day was a poor selection, half of it being New Zealand. Good scoured merinos are very dear; crossbreds are rather dull. Prices are unchanged. The present series close on October 11. October 5. lAt the wool sales competition was animated, and Americans bought more freely. The " Bridgewater " brand realised Is Id per lb. x October 7. At tbe wool sales a poor selection was offered, but the bidding was fair. The "Waipawa" brand brought 84d, " Eobinson " 6gd, " Daletborpe " Bd, " Gerard " B|d, 11 Hamilton "Is Ofd. Scoured New Zealand sorts were very firm. The total quantity of wool catalogued up to date is 210,200 bales, of which 181;400 baleß have been sold. The Standard's New York correspondent telegraphs that some wool bnyers in the United S bates are cancelling their foreign orders for consignments, as it is reported that local producers find that tbe new tariff is favourable for greater activity on their part in woolgrowing. October 9. At the wool sales there was good competition, and prices were well maintained.
