When fairly in the home run a great struggle was witnessed between Purepo, Golden Plover, Westmere, and Scot Free, the four horses being abreast. Scot Free was the firafc to give way slightly, and after passing the second st&nd Golden Plover got slightly in front, and despite all' efforts on the part of Purepo and Westmere managed to squeeze home by half a length from Purepo and Westmere, who ran a dead heat for second place. The last jump was taken by these four abreast, and a ding dong finish was witnessed, Melinite and T Rose fighting out a desperate finish, which resulted in the former getting home by a long neck from T Rose, with Roscius half a length away alongside of Worth ; all the others close up.
