Mr Skene reports under date October 3: — Work nowadays seems to be a secondary consideration—what between politics and newfangled ideas people cannot settle down with comfort to employ or be employed. We are now on the verge of the busiest season, and a good many orders are coming in for farm and station hands. Dairy people will soon be moving with the young pastures, and the dairying interest should give a lift to hundreds of youngsters for whom there is no chance in town, where work and business of all kinds ia in a most humbling
position. Country wages keep very fair for goo« people.
