The committee of the Otago Chess Club hascommunicated with the Canterbury Club with the view of ascertaining if a North and South ; tourney for the Middle Island can be arranged. It is to be hoped that the matter can be arranged. Next Easter holidays might be found a suitable time. The time is not too distant nor too short to | allow of the necessary" arrangements being made. Messrs Edwards and Mellor have not yet come into the contest, the former having played but one game, and the engagements of the latter not permitting him to begin play until next month. No games have yet been played is the club championship tourney. The result of play in the Wellington-Canterbury match on Saturday last was 1 win to Wellington and 1 to Canterbury, making a total of Welling, ton 4 wins, Canterbury I, 2 draws, and 8 unfinished. The Wellington winneis are Messrs Littlejohn, Cocks, Parker, and Tame; Canterbury, Hookham.
