August 6.— Mr L. Griffin is erecting a new house on a lofty site in place of the building recently destroyed byfiie. Two sections of land are reported to have recently changed hands in the township of Hastings at fair prices, and it is rumoured that the new owners intend to commence building operations forthwith.

Bush Fires. — The larrikins were at work again in the bush on Sunday last, destroying by fire the growth of years in the course of a few moments. It is time the police took the matter in hand, for no fewer than three large fires in different places were observed on the day named by tho writer.
