nnHE GAOL SITE. Every business man will agree that the resolve of the City Council fco accept the Governments £3000 aud re-erpcb the gaol on its present site is a wise choice of tbe alternatives offered thetn. "£3OOO and Castle streefc or elsewhere and nothing ! " thunders the Government, and the council reply, " Pass along the dibba, Richard ! " What else could they do ? This is a present and future gain fco the working man. The £3000 goes into preocne consumption at a very opportune time, aud in three or four years a more intelligent Government will come m, and will give the council £10,000 to shift its gaol to a more becoming bite. Tho working man scores again, and so he should. He is the consistent supporter of the Waterbury Watch, and the backbone of his country.
