D. A. Brodie v. H Morris.

An Invercargill correspondent writes :— A draughts match was played at tho Trades Union Clubrooms between the above two well-known players for a stake. The conditions of the match were 12 games to be played. Mr A. llaeside acted as referee. Mr H. Morris's supporters were confident of victory for their man on account of his former performances at the Exhibition Tournament held at Melbourne, where he succeeded in gaining the medal for the best all-round play on that occasion. During the play the greatest excitement was manifested by the onlookers, but the Dunedin champion showed up to great advantage. The match was rather one-sided, the result being 7 wins for Brodie and 1 for Morris, and i drawn games. Brodie is in excellent form, and is taking the opportunity for good training with Mr A. Raeside (Mayor Invercargill) and the well-known player Mr William M'llwrick. The best expectations are held out for him in his forthcoming match with Mr Boreham on August 20. Brodie is in excellent health and seems to be enjoying himself well on his southern tour. He visits Riverton, . Fairfax. Calcium Hall, Otautau, Bluff, Ocean Beach, and Winton. He will be in Queenstown on June 26, and the following day goes to bkippers, where he will be the guest of Mr R. Stevenson, the noted player of that district. From there he will arrange his visits to Cromwell and Arrowtown, paying on his homeward journey visits to Mataura and Gore, and if requested he will call at Wyndham and Kaitangata. Letters may be addressed care of Mr A. Raeside, Invercargill. -
