CASUALTIES.

Edward Thornton, aged 60, who fell over the Queen street wharf, Auckland, and was rescued from the harbour in an unconscious state on Monday, 4-th, died in the hospital on the 6fch. He was formerly licensee of the Ellerslie Hotel, bub latterly a groom.

An elderly man named George Andrew was found dead in the house in which he lived in Walker street at an early hour on Friday morning. A verdict that the deceased died from apoplexy was returned.

The Inspector of Police has received information that a man named James Smith, who was over 70 years of age, was found dead in his bed at Alexandra on Monday morning.

A boy named Edward Power, living at South Duuedin, sustained nasty injuries to one of his feet on Monday through a dray passing over him. He was taken to the hospital, where it was found that although the foot was badly crushed, no bones were broken.

A young man named Otto Swanson was brought to tho hospital from East Taieri on Monday, suffering from a fracture of the left leg caused through the wheel of a loaded dray passing over him. The injured limb was set, and the patient is now progressing favourably. A young man named George Storey, an operator in the Telegraph department at Wellington, was found on the Kaiwarrawarra Beach on Tuesday in a conditiou which lead to the belief that he had taken poison. Medical aid was obtained, and Storey is now recovering. Dr Cahill reports Storey to be suffering from excessive drinking. He was found by a friend to whom he had telephoned that his body would be found on the beach.
