LAND AND WATER
The Southland Cricket Association have decided to offer the Fijian and Queensland teams 60 per cent, of the gross takings of matches played at Invercargill. The association will send a team as far north as Christchurch next season. At a social in connection with the Wellington Cricket Association last 'Friday night, Mr Alfred Ashbolt, who has acted in the capacity of umpire for nearly ten years paßt^ was presented with an illuminated address and a handsome tea and coffee service, the occasion being the celebration of his silver wedding. At a meeting of the Canterbury Cricket Association last Friday night it was decided to invite the Queensland Eleven to visit Now Zealand, providing it is accredited by the Queensland Cricket Association, and to communicate with the other New Zealand associations on the subject. The receipts of the association last season amounted to over £300, as against £64 in the previous year. A motion was carried to the effect that the Canterbury Association is of opinion that the interest of cricket throughout the colony would be promoted by the formation of a New Zealand Cricket Association. The secretary was instructed to get the opinion of the other New Zealand Cricket Associations on the matter. At the annual meeting of the Ofcago Golf Club, the committee presented a report and balance sheet showing the club to be in a flourishing condition. The following officebearers were appointed :— Captain, C. R. Howden (re-elected) ; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr F. J. Stilling (re-elected) ; committeeMessrs W. Brown, E. Melland, J. R. Scott, J. A. Somervillo, and G. Todd, jun. Mr F. A. Kebbell has purchased for about £100 the rough-coated collie Newmarket Ruff, recently imported by Mr F. Rogen, of Karori.— Post.
