FIXTURES FOR THE SEASON. June 6, 7, B.— Forbury Cup and St. Leger, at Dunedin. Nominations, 30th May. July 4, 5, 6. —Waterloo Cup and Bracelet, at Dunedin. Nominations, 27th June. August 1, 2, 3.— Champion Stakes, Trial Stakes, and Consolation Stakes, at Dunedin. Nominations for Champion and Trial Stakes, 25th July. NOTES BY MASTER M^RATfI. Mr L. Rutledge, who has gone to see the Auckland meeting, is about as fair a judge of a course as you will find among the crowd. The stud dog Razzle Dazzle is advertised in this issue. He certainly has a wonderful record, and coursing men might go farther and fare worse in looking for a stud dog. Those interested should think over the announcement. Our Auckland correspondent telegraphs : — " The approaching meeting of the Auckland Coursing Club is attracting much attention in coursing sircles, and a number of dogs are training for the Northern Challenge Stakes. Messrs Jerome, Yatec, and Twohey, the wellknown Australian coursing men, are here with dogs in view of the meeting. Mr W. Proffitt has brought a Challenge Stakes candidate up from Napier, and Martin Taylor is also expected here in a few days from Christchurch with several well-known dogs. The Piumpton, at Avondale, is at present stocked with fully 80 hares, 40 of which were in the defunct Christchurch Piumpton." JUNE COURSING MEETING. The June coursng meeting, under the management of the Dunedin Jockey Club, was opened y< sterday afternoon. The weather was fine. The clouds which hung about in the early part of the day cleared off, and as the afternoon advanced the 6un shone out brightly. The attendance, however, during the day wan email. The entries for the two events — the St. Leger and the Forbury Cvp — numbered about the same as those received for the June meeting last year. The first round of the St. Leger, which opened the meeting, was got off very quickly, and although the courses as a whole were not very exciting, one or two interesting contests were witnessed. Mr W. MAuley Acted as judge and Mr W. Henderson as slipper, the slip stewards being Messrs G. Dowse and W. H. Taggart. The following are the results : — St. Leger, for 21 puppies at £2 each. Virginia led up from. King Death by three lengths and won easily. A capital course ensued between Zulu and Hasty Girl. Ostrich led up from Bluelock and did all the work. Hasty Girl led up and turned ; Virginia got in once or twice, but only on sufferance, Hasty Girl winning easily. Carnage (3 to 2 agst) led up by 10 or 12 lengths from Wanderer, and although no work was done owing to the hare profiting by the long Btart and reaching the escapes, Messrs Deaker's dog was awarded the course on account of superior speed. Waratah came up with a strong lead and | turned, but subsequently overrunning the hare, which was a very strong one, Denyer got in. Some capital work was done by both dogs, but Waratah scored heavily in front of the escapes. The betting was even. Ledgerkeeper (6 to 4 on) led up and turned, when Brilliant Boy got in, and after securing a couple of wrenches killed himself out of it. Pine Hut (2 to 1 on) led up from Merchant and won easily. Sailor Jack (3 to 1 on) proved too fast for Midge, and put up the highest score in a capital course. Maltstress being withdrawn, Douglas ran an accidental bye.
