OTTAWA CONFERENCE.

Lord Jersey, in a private letter, said that he undertook to represent Great Britain at the Ottawa Conference alter much hesitation, as the work requires a better man, but there was no one more desirous of attaining the object than himself. The Times says it is improbable the Canadian Conference will deal with the Samoin difficulty or colonial commercial treaties, both of which questions are outside of the objects for which the conference wa3 called together. Ottawa, June 3. The Hon. Mr Bowell informed the Canadian House of Commons that his visit to the colonies had convinced him that they were certain to unite with a view to securing the removal of the barriers againat reciprocal trade on a preferential basH A Greymouth telegram states that Charles Louis Hertslet, of the Telegraph department, was married yesterday morning to Annie Warner, organist of Trinity Church, relict of th? late Mr John Warner, solicitor. Both are very popular in the district.
