AMERICAN COMMERCIAL.
There were no vessels loading at New York for New Zealand on March 31. Messrs Henry W. Peabody and Co. report that the barque Mary Hasbrouck, which left on March 19 for Dunedin, Lyttelton, and Auckland, had on board 4370 cases of kerosene for Dunedin, 1500 for Lyttelton, and 2500 for Auckland. Messrs Arkell and Douglas, referring to the list of vessels on the berth for Australia, report :— The tonnage shown would be in excess of usual requirements, even at this season of the year, which is the period of oil shipments ; but in consequence of the charter of the barque Low Wood for Melbourne by parties not heretofore loading for that port, the oil market became demoralised, and very low prices ex-ship's slings ruled, bringing considerable cable orders and requiring an excess of usual tonnage. Ihe low prices should enable buyers of kerosene to protect their trade, as those interested in the Low Wood shipments will have no advantage over them. We understand this vessel is not engaging any general freight ; she will carry an almost entire cargo of oil, with a quantity of resin and one or two other lines.
