EARTHQUAKES IN GREECE.
A TEREIBLE CALAMITY. j Athens, April 23. I The death rolls of the earthquake have itcreaped to 320. The loss of life was especially large in the monasteries. It la reported that whole families . were engalfed while attending church. A pier in the Bjzanlice church afc Daphne waa shattered, and its fall wrecked the whole baildirg. April 23. Earthquakes have coined -widespread bavoc throughout the country. Atlanta is nearly in ruins. Hundreds of families there and eh e where are homeless. A shock occurred while Fervice was being held in the cathedral id the city. There was a crowded congregation and a panic resulted, which was only allayed by the presence of mind of M. Tricoupi*. Thebes has been utterly destrojed by renewed shocks and it is estimated that fully 300 persons have been killed. The Larissa prison was wrecked by an earthquake and the prisoners liberated. April 29. As reports came in from the districts affeoted by tha' earthquake its ravages are sbown to bo much more extensive than was supposed. Hundreds of thousands of people have been rendered homeless, and the whole coast line from opposite Larissa to Theroac - poy!aa is laid desolate. The sea encroached upon the land, and elsewhere torrents cf boiling water upheaved from fissures in the earth and added to the horrors of the scene. April 30. The unfortunate inhabitants in the districts afEec'ed l-y the earthquakes Bre ppending their nights in the open air prajing for mercy. The shecks si ill continue. Extensive fissures h&ve been riven in the ground, and the mountain gorges are greatly affected. M-y 1. The Lord Mayor has started a fund for the relief o£ sufferers by the earthquakes in Greece.
