LATE CRICKET.

SOUTHLAND v. OTAGO.

Invercargill, February 21.

The first interprovinoial cricket match between Otago and Southland commenced to-day in superb weather. The visitors went iv first and on an excellent wicket made 178. The principal scorers were : — Lawton 63, Currie 24. M'Kenzie 15, Clarke 14, Parker 13, Baker IL. Stephenson took six wickets for 69 runs, Kingsland three for 24, and Carver one for 19.

The Southland team in their first ianinge made 128. The principal scorers were : — Burnes 34, Nash (not out) 21, Stephenson 15, Kingeland 13, M'lnerney 11. Parker took four wickets h r 53 runs, Clarke two 19, Lawton two for 22, Baker one for 19. The match will be resumed to-morrow.

The Rifle Association meeting promises to be a great success. Major Sommerville states that it is probable two ladies from Invercargill will enter for the meeting, liifle club men living at a distance should apply for passes at once.

Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. s stock sale advertised' for 6th March at Leask s Yards, Ophir, "will now be held at Messrs Ross and Glendining's Hill's Creek Yards on the same date. Howden and Walton will sell by auction on Friday, March 2, at 2.30 p.m., for the executors of the late A. C. Strode, a valuable freehold section in George street, Dunedin, held under lease, returning £238 5s per annum ; also a valuable freehold section in Cumberland street, Dunedin, nearly opposite M'Leod's soap factory, on behalf 9f the same vendors.— [Advt.J
